Learn more about the great American artist and portraitist John Singer Sargent as Karen Corsano '67 and Dan Williman discuss their book, John Singer Sargent and His Muse: Painting Love and Loss. This sensitive and compelling biography sheds new light on John Singer Sargent's art through an intimate history of his family, especially his niece and muse, Rose-Marie Ormond, whose idyllic teenage summers were documented by Sargent in a score of paintings.
Following her tragic death, Sargent created a series of murals for the Boston Public Library. The authors' talk will focus on the last mural panels Sargent painted for the BPL—Synagogue and Church—in which he mixed traditional iconography with his personal need to create a memorial for his beloved niece.
