About Gabriela Taveras ‘17

Gabriela serves as the President of the Equal Pay Group, a strategy consulting firm with core competencies in pay equity, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and talent management. Her work within DEI began at Emmanuel College when she worked with Jeff Smith, Associate Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, in the Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She held various student leadership roles including serving as the Community Outreach Coordinator for the Black Student Union which protested and advocated for equity and equality for students of color at Emmanuel College. Following her tenure, she worked for the third-largest staffing agency in the country which gave her a keen insight on the impact of organizational policies, compensation, and diversity as it relates to achieving an organization's intended goals and objectives.

In 2018, she made history by becoming the first Black Miss Massachusetts in the Miss America Organization where she went on to win the STEM Award, Interview Award, People’s Choice Award, and placed Top 5 in the national competition. Throughout her year, she experienced heightened racism and discrimination which further invigorated her passion for DEI. As a dedicated advocate of equity and employment change, Gabriela has worked for various organizations, providing support in human resource management and development, workforce development, recruitment, data analysis, and operations management.

Gabriela received her BA in Biology: Neuroscience from Emmanuel College in 2017 as well as her Certification in Compensation Analysis through the Compensation Analyst Academy. She is a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Fellow at the D’Amore McKim School of Business at Northeastern University proactively seeking a Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) with a concentration in Human Resource: Corporate Renewal. She believes that equality is good business and workplaces should not only be equitable, but also fulfilling. Her work is centered on making both ideas a reality.
